Engineering Mobile’s Future (EMF):
EMF
is a multi-faceted and comprehensive approach to engage, support and prepare
Mobile
’s youth in the STEM (science, mathematics, engineering, mathematics) disciplines.
When fully operational,
EMF
includes six components: 1) more rigorous and relevant STEM standards and curriculum that is supported by 2) targeted student interventions; 3) STEM professional development and capacity building; 4) career planning and guidance; 5) business and community
involvement and 6) youth engaged around STEM subjects and careers.
(Please

to view the
EMF
framework depicting these components.)
Each of these components requires time for development, especially to impact a school system the size of
Mobile
’s.
Thus
Engineering Mobile’s Future
is first being implemented in a strategically selected feeder pattern of schools, i.e., a set of
elementary and middle schools that feed students to a single high school.
Strategies involving best practices from Mobile and around the country will be implemented and refined in the
EMF
feeder patterns and the results will
serve to influence upcoming district-wide STEM curriculum and assessment revision, the development of a related five-year STEM professional development plan for Mobile’s educators, and expanded STEM co-curricular opportunities for all students.
