Faith-based Community
With establishment of the Research Alliance for Multiple Pathways (RAMP), a full scope program engaging diverse community participation with a focus on drop-out prevention through a Department of Labor workforce grant, Mobile was selected as one of 7 cities in the nation to receive the planning grant.
The various stakeholder groups - community and faith-based, elected officials, parents, business and industry, educators and juvenile justice will be asked to do their part as we move priorities of drop-out prevention into action.
For the faith-based community this means:
- Building alliances among key partners to increase awareness, heighten expectations, increase ownership among parishioners for public schools to ensure that all students graduate from high school prepared for a career or encouraged to pursue post-secondary education.
- Aligning faith-based resources to better serve schools.
- Survey area churches on physical and human resources, recruit faith-based organizations to participate (ie., religious affiliated colleges, churches, synagogues, mosques, member groups like Quest for Social Justice)
- Create better communication/dialogue with faith-based organizations
- Focus on parents/parenting programs, partner with parents/other adult caregivers
- Identify on-going programs (i.e., tutoring, after-school care, computer labs, inc.)
- Network area faith-based communities connecting resources, identify schools served by each
- Recruit volunteers from each organization to serve
- Developing effective parenting programs/family counseling.
- Developing and implementing mentoring and tutoring programs in partnership with the local schools.
- Developing and implementing outreach and re-engagement strategies for students that have dropped out of the local school system.
- Helping students set their life vision and direction.
