EDUCATION SUMMIT 2007
More than 560 Mobilians gathered for the Focus on the Future Education Summit, a large-scale community meeting that took place at the Mitchell Center. The interactive format of the meeting connected participants from all over Mobile County in a discussion of improving schools in Mobile County to deliver students that are ready for college or ready for the world of work.
Focus on the Future updated participants on K-12 education improvments that have been realized over the last 15 years in Mobile County and shared brief facts about the status of student achievement in Mobile County - where we were, where we are today, and where we need to be in the future. It created a public dialogue to identify priorities for our schools and further strengthen community awareness for continuous improvement.
Participants began the day-long Education Summit by sharing their ideas on the five discussion topics - teaching and learning, beyond academics, leadership, parental involvement, and communication that will serve as the basis for amending the citizien-driven long range plan for improving Mobile schools. Over the past six months, these big ideas were identified through four processes:
-
YES WE CAN - 3,500 participants, 150 meetings
-
CORRE (Central Office Review for Results and Equity) 330 participants, 56 meetings, in partnership with the Annenberg Institute For School Reform at Brown University (Click here for CORRE Report)
