The WORKFORCE Challenge

A Lack of Skilled Local Labor

Though Mobile’s economy is among the nation’s leaders with a projected 30.6% future job growth over the next 10 years, companies across the area struggle to find skilled, competent employees from the Mobile area.

The MARKETING Challenge

Knowing the Opportunities in Our Community

Many local residents and youth believe they must look outside of Mobile to find a great career. Yet, the average salary of the 561 new Mobile jobs in 2015 was $60,593.

The IMPACT

Our youth are unaware and unprepared for the excellent jobs in this community.

 The RESPONSE

In response to local business/industry leaders expressing their concerns of  having a skilled workforce shortage, we have evolved our Vital Link summer internship program for rising eighth graders to the new Vital Link 2.0 for rising seniors. Vital Link 2.0 is designed to provide meaningful real-world internship opportunities to our youth and aid them in connecting their career interest with their post-secondary education and career planning.

What is it?

Vital Link 2.0 is a real-world, 4-week/15 hours per week paid internship (total of 60 hours) for rising seniors who have been recommended by their school through an application process

Where will students intern?

In local businesses that are of career interest to them (preference will be given to students in schools with existing academy partnerships)

When will the internships be held?

June 6- 30, 2016
